Activities and responsibilities

Juno Therapeutics GmbH in Munich is seeking Research Associate to contribute to the development of a novel cell/gene therapy manufacturing platform. The Research Associate will be responsible for providing experimental support for the project including measuring and maintaining critical quality attributes of gene-engineered T cells. This position requires close cooperation with experts in bioengineering and medical device development.

What great looks like in this role
You will have a strong foundation in human T cell biology and a proven track-record of utilization of a broad range of in vitro cell-based and molecular assays using human immune and tumor cells.

Daily and Monthly Responsibilities
  • Develop, execute, and troubleshoot experiments for the development of a robust T cell manufacturing platform for engineering human primary T-cells.
  • Work with human blood specimens (including: stimulation with different agents, cultivation, genetic modification etc.).
  • Generate material to support experiments.
  • Execution of different cell sorting techniques.
  • Development of new procedures and functional tests.
  • Largely self-organized laboratory work with skilled colleagues that may include exchange across functional teams.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed laboratory notebook and documentation of experimental results.

Qualification profile

Knowledge and skills required
  • A Bachelor, Master or Laboratory Technician degree with 4+ years of relevant experience.
  • Extensive experience in handling and culture of human primary cells.
  • Profound experience with flow cytometry (sample preparation, data acquisition, and analysis).
  • Excellent communication and writing skills in English (required) and German (beneficial).
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment according to set priorities and timelines.
  • Strong willingness to learn new cutting-edge methodologies.
  • Strong organization, documentation, time management, and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Working knowledge of flow cytometry analysis software (FlowJo) as well as statistical software (Prism).
  • Experience with T cell manufacturing process.
  • Knowledge or experience with microfluidics is a plus.
  • Immunological background is of benefit.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional scientific environment.
  • Understanding the rationale and scientific backgrounds of the projects and experiments.
